Good UK Kitesurfing Spots

Being Manchester based I thought I'd write about some good beaches in the UK that I Kiteboard regularly at, also some not so regular but good all the same.

1. Blackpool / St. Annes

There are essentially two main places to launch at this spot. First one is at Stargate, this is at the bottom of the famous Blackpool Tram line and where the promonade finishes. There is a carpark here, which you have to pay for, but is a couple of quid for the whole day. The second one is about a mile down the road, turn left and drive past pontins. You'll see the new Kitesurfing centre on the right, here is a free Carpark, which is used by Kitesurfers and generall dog walkers/ other beacher users.

When you get out on the Water, you have general chop and as the tide starts to come in you have flat water ponds which appears up the beach. This is a great place for beginners right up to pros, and you'll see quite a few handy Kitesurfers knocking about.

The local Kite shop Hang Time Kites have laid out a code of conduct, which is a great idea to keep the respect of non-kitesurfing beach users, see here.

2. Rhosneigr

Rhosneigr in Anglesey is a great place that has everything flatish water in the bay and nice waves on the out side. You can ride this place on South/South Westerly winds. Normally when it is blowing in the Blackpool region in South/South Westerly it is 5 or so knots more here. It is just a question of if you can be doing with the 2 hours it takes to get there from Manchester. It is worth it if you can catch it on a good day, it does get busy at the weekend.

Here is the webcam from the local shop (Click here).
